Salacia roots have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for diabetes and obesity management since antiquity. Roots are being extensively consumed in Japan, the United States, and other countries as a food supplement for the prevention of diabetes and obesity. The roots and stems of S. reticulata have been used for the treatment of rheumatism, gonorrhea and skin diseases.
